What is the Flooring Calculator?

A flooring calculator works out how many tiles you'll need to cover a room — given the room and tile dimensions — and estimates the total tile cost including a wastage buffer for cuts and broken pieces.

Formula

Tiles = ceil(Room area / Tile area × (1 + wastage %))
  • Room areaLength × width in sq.ft.
  • Tile areaTile L × W converted to sq.ft.

Step-by-step example

Setup: 15 ft × 12 ft room, 24″ × 24″ tiles, 10% wastage, ₹60/tile.

  1. Room area = 180 ft²
  2. Tile area = 4 ft²
  3. Base = 45 tiles · with wastage = 50 tiles
  4. Cost = 50 × 60 = ₹3,000

Answer: ≈ 50 tiles · ≈ ₹3,000 for tiles alone (labour and adhesive extra)

Frequently asked questions
